We are a collaborative initiative that brings together University Student leaders, students, and young professionals across the country from both public and private Universities, for mentorship, training, networking and capacity building. AYLF was formed in 2007. It is now present in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, DR Congo, and South Sudan.
At AYLF, we believe leadership is being self-aware, having the ability to identify and meet community needs for transformation while inspiring them to exploit their gifts and potential.
Reconciliation cultivates self aware leaders who are capable of navigating difficult environments by giving them tools to analyze conflicts and facilitate space for healing and wholeness.
The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army, or in an office.
A family of friends where young people across Africa build meaningful relationships resulting in partnerships that will further their future careers and leadership influence
To be a movement of friends and nurture a new breed of African leaders, based on the
leadership qualities, values, and principles of Jesus of Nazareth. Examples of that
kind of leadership would be the likes of Julius Nyerere, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson
Mandela, Wangari Maathai, Martin Luther King Jr., William Wilberforce, Mother Theresa,
Lord Shaftesbury, Abraham Lincoln, Anwar Sadat and others of their kind.
The Core of the AYLF Vision is “a new breed of leaders” – with largely 2 main aspects:
Leaders who can work across the lines of all that is creating division and
alienation in our nations.
Leaders who are value based. Women of virtue and Men of Integrity
– who can be the ‘salt and light’ in their generation.
The AYLF training on the 7 habits of effective people allows us to more experience hears us as young leaders and opens our eyes to new phenomenal aspects leadership such as having an end in mind and getting things right first of all it makes us think deeply about life.
I joined AYLF in my 1st year of studies. I was appointed Deputy Coordinator of ULT along with a friend who we led members with through the Leadership Program, the Seven Habits of Highly Effective Leaders by Steven R Covey.
AYLF defined the peak of my college life, through various Cornerstone mentoring programs Mr. Tim Kreutter - a very influential person in my life with the AYLF team (Jean Sacha Barikumutima, keith Florian, Isaac Nininahazwa). The knowledge that I have acquired and the principles that I have learned are analogous to steering only by which you can keep the car on track.
Cordinator at ULT UniversityDuring my time here at Ngozi University, I am actively involved in youth leadership development as the coordinator of the Africa Youth Leadership Forum (AYLF) and I have the opportunity to convene the leaders of other students from faculties and residences.
I have attended several events before and interacted with other very talented young people, and to be honest each event has always been an inspiration and I have always looked forward to other events organized by AYLF.
Cordinator at Ngozi UniversityStill at university, I identified and formed a small group of friends to be my circle family of friends and this small group has existed until today. We are like brothers and sisters, we know each other than our own families and siblings know about us, we hold each other accountable, we are available for each other and this was one thing i learnt from AYLF.
We meet with other experienced carefully selected mentors who are readers to fellowship in small groups and share experiences with young professional to improve their attitude and culture in reading. This is a typical method of leadership that i picked from AYLF.
Cordinator at HAU UniversityIt all starts with self-awareness. This is a great opportunity for you to join other leaders from different sectors of economy and are developing their influence on leadership.
These are our core values :
